After flirting with the possibility of a date with the South Carolina coast, the tropical storm formally known as Chantal may not bother us much at all next week.
That's because the National Hurricane Center has downgraded the storm to merely a tropical wave with the latest forecast.
"Tropical Depression Chantal dissipated at 5 p.m.," said the NHC's latest forecast.
The news of Chantal's diminishment does not mean the Palmetto State will get a reprieve from the rain anytime soon, though.
A front will increase chances of rain in the Midlands to 70 percent on Friday and 60 percent through the weekend.
