GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man who threw himself in front of a 18-wheeler Tuesday morning was wanted on a warrant for a sex crime, according to Greer police.

Robby Hand, 50, was wanted for first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child from an incident that happened June 2 and had a warrant out for his arrest, according to Jimmy Holcombe of the Greer Police Department.

Police said the victim in the case was younger than 10 years old.

Around 8:40 a.m. the Greenville County Sheriff's Office received calls that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle on Interstate 85 near Laurens Road, according to deputies. Greer police said they were notified that the man hit was Hand.

Holcombe said Hand told people that he was going to turn himself in, but he didn't.

When Hand intentionally walked in front of the 18 wheeler, the driver of the truck tried to swerve, but was unsuccessful and struck the man with the driver side of the cab, according to Greenville County deputies.

Hand was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive, Holcombe said. He said they will arrest Hand once he is cleared to leave the hospital.
