LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -

Lexington Police have arrested a 31-year-old man in connection to the crash that caused parts of Sunset Boulevard to lose power late Thursday night.

Police have charged Scott Kenneth Brannon with two counts of failure to stop for police, one count of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, one count of failure to obey police, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and a seat belt violation.

Investigators say police tried to pull Brannon over for a traffic violation around 9 p.m., but he began to speed away from officers.

Police say a short time later, Brannon crashed into another car and struck a utility pole at the 5600 block of Sunset Boulevard.

Officers say they saw Brannon crawl out of the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.

Officials spent several hours trying to locate Brannon early Friday morning, but were largely unsuccessful until 1 p.m. when officers spotted him again in the parking lot of Oakwood Homes, on Highway 378, not far from where he's crashed his SUV.

Salesman Gary Atkinson was showing a home when police pulled in, pursuing Brannon back to a construction dump site.

"Fortunately we keep all our houses locked so he really couldn't get in any of our houses. They wanted to just verify that. We have about 20 houses here, so they didn't want to have to go through all the houses, but he could still hide under the houses and get in some around the construction debris and the dumpsters and they were pretty much just searching through everything," said Atkinson.

Brannon was quickly apprehended and placed into custody.

Brannon is now being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
