ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a Calhoun County Sheriff's deputy.

The collision occurred around 8:45 a.m. north of Orangeburg near the intersection of US 21 and Waterspring Road.

Troopers say a southbound 2003 Saturn crossed the center line and collided with a northbound marked patrol vehicle.

The driver of the Saturn, 29-year-old Tiffany Benjamin of Orangeburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. She died from trauma sustained in the accident, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner's Office.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers says a female deputy was transported to the Orangeburg Regional Medical Center by ambulance, but did not comment on her condition.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
