COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Columbia Police Department says cell phone triangulation helped them locate a man who left a Columbia area care facility Saturday night.

Police say they were able to find Leon Harrison Monday afternoon using the triangulation of radio signals.

Harrison, who left a facility in the 800 block of Duke Ave in the Eau Claire area of Columbia on June 29, had apparently suffered a seizure and dropped his cell phone in a wooded area near 709 Sunset Blvd.

Because the phone was on, uniformed police were able to find him alive but in need of medical attention. He was taken to an area hospital where he remains in good condition.

Investigators say he had likely been without crucial medication to control seizures since that evening.

Police say Harrison grew up in the area of 4500 Monticello Ave and moved to California in the mid- 1970s. After suffering a medical crisis that caused some impairment of his memory and weakness of his left arm and leg, he returned to the Columbia area in 2012.

Police say he has a history of walking away from care facilities and wandering until being found.
