COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Authorities have released the identity of a man found dead several hours after the vehicle he was driving crashed in Columbia.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 33-year-old Cesar R. Alas of Columbia was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle and died at the scene.

Columbia Police say the vehicle was found off of Duke Avenue near Broad River Road at about 7:30 Saturday morning.

Watts says it appears the crash occurred 12-20 hours before the car was found.

The victim's body was found near the wreckage. He had been thrown from the car.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling west on Duke Ave when it went off the right shoulder and hit a large tree off the embankment. Police say their preliminary investigation reveals no other people or vehicles involved in the crash.
