Troopers: 1 dead from driver going wrong way on interstate

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

1 person died from a car accident on I-77 southbound early Saturday morning about 3 a.m.

Troopers confirmed that Austin Cason, aprox. 21 years old, struck another vehicle head on while he was heading northbound on the southbound lanes of I-77.

According to Troopers, Robert Goulding was killed on impact.

The accident happened near Carowinds Blvd.

Cason was airlifted to Carolina Medical and is serious but stable condition.

Troopers believe that alcohol may be a crash factor.

Charges are pending.
