Richland County Sheriff's Department Summer Camps

Sheriff's Priority and Passion provides Life Skills, Education, and Recreation for Kids This Summer

Sheriff Leon Lott has a passion for youth; he believes it is everyone's responsibility to provide opportunities for success in life for all. To that end Sheriff Leon Lott announces the Richland County Sheriff's Department Kids Summer Camp schedule.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the Richland County Sheriff's Department will be hosting a number of summer camps for various age groups in conjunction with the area school districts: Richland One, 2 and Lexington-Richland Five. Parents/guardians may now register your kids for various summer camps:

  • Character Camp
  • Stars of Tomorrow Camp
  • Sports Camp
  • Chess Camp
  • Students Helping Our Community Camp
  • Crime Scene Investigation Camp

The Sheriff stated each camp operates on a two-week period Monday through Friday 8:00-4:00 for each site. Camp fees are just $25.00 and are on a first come first serve basis. The maximum numbers for each camp will be 45 campers.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the summer programs build on the school-based curriculum, by offering positive activities to relieve some of the boredom over the summer months and increase their opportunities for social, cognitive, and interpersonal growth. The programs will involve students in a variety of educational and recreational activities. These programs help them to develop the important skills needed to be able to demonstrate respect for others, avoid gangs using the Gang Resistance Education curriculum, and deterring youth to abstain from using or participating in violence. The Sheriff stated that each camp has a different point of contact; please see the descriptions below for the schedule and how to sign up.
