District leaders agree to cooperate with SLED investigation

Posted: Updated:
SUMTER, SC (WIS) -

Sumter school leaders will cooperate with investigators if they decide to look into testing irregularities at Sumter High School.

Sumter school board members met for an hour and 15 minutes behind closed doors with their legal representatives Saturday morning.  When they emerged they had agreed to cooperate with a SLED investigation at Sumter High School.

The state Department of Education called for the investigation after monitors during the testing in April found the process was unorganized.  Monitors claim it took too long to get students started into testing, lunch for students was rushed and teachers were never trained on the proper procedures.

Principal Sterling Harris and administrators have repeatedly denied those claims.  SLED is currently reviewing the state's request and hasn't said yet whether they will conduct the investigation.
