SC AG requests criminal investigation into Robert Ford

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC/AP) -

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has requested SLED to conduct a criminal investigation involving criminal allegations against former Sen. Robert Ford.

This comes after the Senate Ethics Committee forwarded the ethics case to the attorney general's office which included the committee findings where evidence was found to support allegations that the Charleston Democrat violated eight sections of South Carolina's ethics law.

Documents shown during a evidence hearing included a debit card linked to Ford's campaign account used to buy items at two adult stores. Ford said they were gifts for people who helped with his campaigns.

Ford is accused of using campaign donations for personal expenses, misrepresenting his spending, failing to report numerous expenses, donations and personal loans and then trying to cover it up.

The SC senator resigned from his post last week
