Motorcyclist loses life while trying to pass car

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after attempting to pass a car on US Highway 76 near Chapin, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened around 4:30 p.m.

Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins says the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Chapin when it attempted to pass a vehicle and struck a 2010 Pontiac that was traveling westbound.

The Lexington County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Patrick Kemp Cave, 32, of Columbia. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Pontiac was not injured.

Collins said no charges are expected to be filed because the motorcycle was improperly passing another vehicle when the collision occurred.

The crash remains under investigation.
