Report: Uncle charged after toddler found on bike alone on highway

A Chester County man has been charged after deputies say he let his nephew go missing for more than an hour before calling 911.

Neal Franklin Jones, 27, of Lando, is charged with child neglect, according to the Chester County Sheriff's Office.

A woman and her family were driving down Edgeland Road around noon on Monday when they saw the 3-year-old toddler riding his bike in the middle of the road.

They got out to help the child and since they didn't see anyone around, they took the child to a nearby restaurant and called 911.

The child rode with the deputy down the road until he pointed to his "Nana's house". No one was at home.

Shortly after, the child's grandparents called 911 to report the child missing.

The grandparents told deputies they had left the child in the care of Jones, the toddler's uncle, according to the release.

Jones told deputies he was watching the child ride his bike in the street when he went inside to get a drink. When he came back out, the child was gone.

The child was found roughly a half-mile from the residence on School House Road.

Jones was charged because deputies say more than an hour went by between the time the child went missing and it was reported to law enforcement.

The child was unharmed.
