COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A 27-year-old Batesburg-Leesville woman is in trouble with the law after police say she left one of her children in her car and carried the other one in a shopping cart while she attempted to steal clothes from Walmart.

According to a Columbia Police Department incident report, Brittany N. Bryan was caught by a loss prevention officer on Thursday attempting to carry a dozen pieces of women's clothing from the Walmart at 7520 Garners Ferry Road.

When a police officer arrived, Bryan notified him that she left her three-year-old in her car, the report stated. The officer found the little girl sleeping in the back seat with a pillow and blanket.

According to the report, Bryan told the officer that she left the girl in the car because she was sleeping and she did not want to wake her up. The child was alone in the vehicle for approximately 45 minutes, the report states.

The report also states Bryan had a three-month-old boy in her shopping cart.

The children were placed in protective custody.

Bryan was arrested and charged with shoplifting and cruelty to children. She was transported to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where she remains on just over $1,500 bond.
