Boone Hall apologizes for 'very loud' fireworks display

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Boone Hall Plantation has released a statement apologizing for the noise created by Wednesday night's fireworks display after a number of residents who were surprised by the unexpected booms called police.

A private special event held at Boone Hall Wednesday night ended with a fireworks display that, according to officials at the plantation, was louder than expected.

"We want to inform our neighbors that this level of noise was unanticipated by Boone Hall," the statement read.

The statement goes on to state, "We sincerely apologize to everyone affected by this noise and please be assured that we will do everything we can to make sure for any future events which are hosted at Boone Hall that disturbing noise of this level does not take place anymore."

According to the release, local homeowner associations were made aware that a fireworks display would take place, and a county permit was sought and granted to shoot off the fireworks.

But that did not stop the loud booms from being heard from Mt. Pleasant and Daniel Island residents who were nowhere near Boone Hall Plantation.

The Live 5 Newsroom and Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch were inundated with calls shortly before 10 p.m. concerning loud booms and explosions.  Dispatch officials said the fireworks at Boone Hall Plantation were from a private event.

The Awendaw Fire Department was on hand to make sure fire and safety regulations were observed and followed.

They also said there was a fireworks display off Daniel Island.
