PHOENIX (CBS5) -

One student basketball player in San Tan Valley is impressing and inspiring his classmates.

Abi Alvidrez is in seventh grade and plays on the school basketball team at Copper Basin K-8 school.

Alvidrez shoots, passes and dribbles with two prosthetic legs.  He only has four fingers on his right hand and just a thumb on his left hand.

He plays so well that many people don't realize he has prosthetic legs.

"When I wear pants, they don't really notice and then when I'm playing basketball or something and I take off my leg real quick... they see and they ask and I say, "I was born like that," said Alvidrez.

Alvidrez has had prosthetic legs since he was 2 and a half years old.

He is comfortable with who he is on and off the court.

"I can tell you one day he took his legs off in the middle of class and put them on the desk," said Alvidrez's principal, Joanne Pike.

"He likes to try every single sport.  Football, basketball... you name it he wants to do it," said Maria Alvidrez, Abi's mother.

Abi Alvidrez's advice to others is to keep trying and don't quit.
