ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The 2013 GHSA Girls' State Track and Field Championships are underway at Hugh Mills Stadium.

Thursday's sessions included A-AAA field finals and A-AAAA prelims.

Several Southwest Georgia athletes bringing home medals and points.

Westover's Ericka Taylor looked to add to her already-historic resume in the AAAA 3200m finals.

She was on pace with eventual winner Morgan Ilse from Marist, but began to run out of gas on lap 4.

She was a favorite coming into the race, but finished 5th.

Taylor says she's disappointed with her finish, but thinks it will motivate her in Friday's 1600m final.

"I at least wanted to win one of the races if not both," she says. "So I think I have a good chance of winning the mile tomorrow."

Baconton Charter's Kimmie Davis earned the gold medal in the A-Public Long Jump. Her jump of 16' 8.5" brought the Blazers 10 points.

Fitzgerald's Leah Ward is the AA Pole Vault runner-up. Ward finished with a 10' 6" mark, six inches behind state champ Sarah Zimmerman from Bremen.

Thomasville's Danisha Jones finished 3rd in the AA Shot Put and 5th in the AA Discus.

The state meet continues Friday with the Class AAAA-AAAAAA field finals, as well as AAAAA and AAAAAA prelims.
