Midlands bus system to restore previously cut services

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Revenues from the newly-implemented penny sales tax initiative in Richland County has allowed the Midlands bus system to restore services that were previously cut to keep the beleaguered transit authority above water.

The COMET says they'll be restoring midday, early-evening, and Saturday services on "major, high-performing routes" on May 13.

The COMET Board of Directors says bringing back these routes will restore 80 additional services hours each day -- an increase of 30 percent.

Bus system officials say their next course of action is to purchase a fleet of ten new mini-buses and new benches and shelters.
