Coroner identifies man pulled from Broad River

Posted: Updated:

The Newberry County Coroner's Office has idenitified the man pulled from the Broad River late Wednesday night.

Coroner Craig Newton says William Preston Feaster III died due to drowning.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says deputies received a call to help locate a boater in the river around 10:30 p.m.

Deputies located Feaster's body about an hour later just below the Highway 34 bridge. High, fast-moving waters made the recovery effort difficult, according to Foster.

Investigators say Feaster was canoeing down the river.

The Department of Natural Resources is aiding in the investigation.
