COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The racing pigeon who took a wrong turn on a trip from Athens, Tennessee to Tampa, Florida, finally managed to make it home after a three-week trip.

"Windy" -- that's the name she was given by the couple who found her along the shores of Lake Murray -- is back home with her owner, Tom Lubberts.

Lubberts says Windy looked tired shortly after she arrived. She will be allowed to recuperate before returning to the race team next year.

Windy was racing more than a thousand other pigeons when she accidentally ended up in South Carolina. Lubberts said the race should've only taken about 12 hours.

"They usually don't stop," said Lubberts. "If they're fed up and watered, they don't stop."

Windy must have made plenty of stops on her extended race. After all, we hear parts of the Southeast are nice this time of year.
