LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

A Gaston man accused of attacking his wife with a box cutter will remain in jail until he appears before a circuit judge who will set bond.

Shawver was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping for a violent attack on his wife on April 18th. Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said Shawver was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service a week after the attack near Paytona, West Virginia.

Shawver was extradited to Lexington County where he went before a judge Wednesday morning for a bond hearing. The judge scheduled him for another bond appearance in General Sessions Court.

Shawver's wife, Kristen, attended the hearing.

"This is a very good decision," she said. "It's really good for me and my son so we don't have to worry about him coming after us."

The Judge also ordered Shawver not to contact his wife or her family.

Metts said Shawver's parents live in West Virginia. He was found in the woods near a small hunting cabin.

Shawver's attorney argued Wednesday his client wasn't aware of warrants for his arrest when he left for West Virginia.

According to arrest warrants, Shawver attacked his wife, Kristen with a box cutter during an argument at the couple's home in Gaston. She managed to flee to a neighbor's house.

Kristen Shawver was taken to the hospital for treatment and was released a week after the attack.

Shawver is scheduled to be back in court in July, however, a hearing could be scheduled sooner.
