Tip leads to arrest of man wanted in 2011 home invasion, sexual assault

A man wanted in connection with a 2011 home invasion and sexual assault in East Camden has been arrested after returning to Kershaw County, according to the sheriff.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says Fredrick Beaufort, 39, was taken into custody early Saturday morning at Pazazz, a club in East Camden.

Matthews said Beaufort was believed to be hiding out in New York.

Beaufort was one of three men accused of terrorizing a man and a woman inside a home on Denton Street in East Camden in August, 2011.

Beaufort along with Jarvis Jones and Marcus Green are believed to be responsible for pistol whipping a man inside the home and fondling a woman during the home invasion and robbery.

Jones, 24 years old at the time, was arrested by a deputy near the scene. Greene, also 24 years old at the time, was arrested later.

"Beaufort's luck ran out on him after he returned to Kershaw County," said Matthews.

At about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, deputies arrested Beaufort after they received a tip that he was running Pazazz. Deputies entered the club after it had closed and took Beaufort into custody without incident.

Beaufort is facing burglary, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and two kidnapping charges. He is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Greene is serving a 15 year prison sentence. Jones received a 5 year sentence, suspended to 3 years probation.

"We routinely act on citizen tips and this is another case where a citizen knew we were looking for this violent criminal and called us. Beaufort is finally off the street and hopefully will not make bond," said Matthews. "He is certainly a danger to the community and a flight risk."
