Assault rifle, stolen handgun seized in shots fired investigation

Posted: Updated:

Richland County Sheriff's deputies seized an assault rifle and a stolen handgun while investigating a shots fired incident Saturday night in Eastover.

Deputy Curtis Wilson said officers were patrolling Main Street near Anderson Street after an event when they heard gunshots.  Witnesses told them three people got into a vehicle and drove away from the scene.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and questioned the people inside.  Wilson said they found a handgun that had been reported stolen out of Clarendon County, which may have been fired in the incident. All three were detained.

During their investigation, Wilson said deputies recovered an assault rifle at another location that may have been used in the incident. One other person was detained.

Wilson said nobody was injured.

Investigators continue to question witnesses.
