GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A group of mothers in support of expanding background checks as a part of gun legislation gathered at the Upstate district offices for South Carolina's senators Thursday.

Members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America held a "Stroller Jam" at Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott's Greenville offices on Main Street.

"South Carolinians want the simple, common-sense solution of background checks applying to private sales conducted online and at gun shows," said Erin Dando, leader of the South Carolina Chapter of Moms Demand Action in a release sent to FOX Carolina.

Scott was in the Upstate on Thursday, attending several varying events.

FOX Carolina spoke with Scott while at the National Day of Prayer event in Anderson about the Stroller Jam and when asked about why he and Graham voted against the Manchin-Toomey bill, he said addressing gun violence is the issue, not more gun laws.

"In Newtown alone, 41 gun laws were broken," Scott said. "So the question is how do we address the issue of violence in our culture? I don't think the answer was in the Toomey-Manchin piece of legislation."

Dando said addressing gun violence is not only about stronger gun laws, but about enforcement, prosecution, gun safety and more.
