(WMC-TV) - Estranged husband Chris Jones is charged with second degree murder in the death of Heather Palumbo-Jones. Her body was found in the area of Collierville-Arlington Road and Highway 64 in Memphis Tuesday night.

In a news conference Wednesday, police said Chris Jones confessed to an altercation with Heather. Chris denied any involvement in his wife's disappearance Friday.

He told Action News 5 that he was blind sided when she filed for divorce.

"We were a very happy beautiful family right up until the day before she decided to leave abruptly," he said.

The two separated in early January. Heather also filed for an order of protection from her husband. He claims the order of protection stemmed from a minor argument over a phone.

The couple has two young children who are now in the custody of their godmother.

Heather Palumbo-Jones was last seen Monday, April 15.

Jones, a kindergarten teacher at Frayser Achievement School, did not report to work the next day.

"I think we're relieved that we have Heather and they have Chris," said Heather's friend Melissa Smith.

Friends and family have spent the last week searching for their friend, and answers.

"Your foot hits something hard and you think, 'Oh my God, is that her?' But it's a branch and you just never know with each step," said Joanna Young.

Both family and friends told Action News 5 that Palumbo-Jones had been recently left her husband. When they learned he was charged, these friends were not surprised.

Now, they are relieved to know their loved one's suspected killer is behind bars – because even they have felt uneasy.

"I jumped when the car came behind me in the rear view mirror. And I am so thankful that I won't be that way anymore," said Smith.

As of Wednesday night after court, Jones was sent to 201 Poplar to be housed until his next appearance in Germantown Court May 1. Check back with WMCTV.COM, this story will be update with more information as it is received.
