COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

The Boston Marathon bombings have agencies across the country preparing for the worst. This week, dozens of state and federal agencies descended on Columbia for intensive disaster training.

It has been planned for months, but it carried extra meaning after the events in Boston.

One-hundred and twenty representatives from agencies across the state are here preparing for a serious disaster. The scenario today was a massive explosion at a rock concert in Charlotte.

The idea is that if the Charlotte hospitals were overwhelmed, patients would be sent to Columbia. Responders practiced treating and organizing the wounded so that they could be sent to area hospitals.

"Unfortunately, no matter where you live in the world these days, bad things happen," said Dr. Chris Lombardozzi. "We've had it in my home town of Spartanburg, we've had in New York, and now we've had it in Boston. Bad things happen and we need to be prepared for it."

The training lasted two days.

In a few weeks, there will be an after action review to figure out what worked and what didn't.
