SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) -

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office says the 54-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a train in Summerville on Tuesday did it on purpose.

Coroner Chris Nisbet said Tuesday night it appeared the Summerville woman intentionally put herself in harm's way.

Summerville police said the incident happened around 12:30 p.m. along Doty Avenue between Cypress Street and Aulds Lane.  Doty Avenue was shut down between Cypress and Maple streets.

Norfolk Southern Railroad authorities also responded to the scene.
