NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Authorities have identified the 17-year-old girl found dead in her Whitmire home Monday afternoon.

Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton identified the victim as Allyson Taylor Greenway, 17, of Broome Street. Greenway died from asphyxiation due to smothering, the coroner said.

Douglas Eugene Inman, 21, also of Whitmire has been charged with murder. He and the victim had a child in common and experienced a "tumultuous, on again, off again relationship" for some time, deputies said.

The two did not live together and the child was not at the residence when the murder occurred, according to deputies.

Law enforcement officers were called to Greenway's home Monday afternoon just after 5 p.m. when a family member found her body inside.

Inman was out on bond for a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, unrelated to this victim.

"As a parent of teenage children, I simply cannot imagine the pain the victim's family is experiencing right now," said Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster. "This is a tragic situation and their entire family remains in our prayer during such a difficult time."

Inman was scheduled to have a first appearance hearing Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Newberry County Magistrate's Court.
