Firefighter transported after falling through roof during Sumter business fire

SUMTER, SC (WIS) -

One firefighter had to be transported from the scene of a two-story building fire on Liberty Street in Sumter Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the firefighter fell through the roof and injured his ankle. That firefighter has since been released from the hospital.

As for the fire itself, authorities say it began around 2:45 p.m. at Discount Flowers and Gifts. Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

At least three other businesses suffered smoke damage due to the fire.

Authorities estimate the damage to be worth $300,000.
