Fairfield County deputies are questioning the son of two people found shot and killed outside a Blair home Monday morning.

Chief Deputy Keith Lewis say a deputy found the bodies of a husband and wife outside a home near the intersection of Highway 215 and Highway 34.

The deputy was checking on 71-year-old Richard and 70-year-old Ruth Marion Mahorsky after co-workers called the sheriff's department when Ruth did not show up for work in the morning.

Lewis said the couple died from gunshot wounds from a high-powered rifle. Lewis said both were shot in the head.

Upon discovery of the bodies, the deputy pulled out of the driveway and called for backup. A special response team responded to the area and started looking for a gunman.

During the search, deputies found the Mahorsky's son inside the garage. Matthew Mahorsky, 40, exited the house without incident and was taken into custody for questioning.

Authorities said late Monday that they had recovered a rifle from inside the home. It is unclear if the weapon was used in the murders.

The son has not been named a suspect and has not been charged with any crimes.

Deputies have been called to the home in the past. "We have had one disturbance with the son," said Lewis.
