One person is in custody after leading deputies on a two-county high speed chase in connection with an alleged kidnapping Monday morning.

Deputies arrested Henry Phoenix Davis, 50, of Cheraw and charged him with failure to stop for blue lights.

The first frantic 911 call came from the victim somewhere between the small towns of Pomaria and Peak.

Before the 911 operator could get very far, the victim was cut off.

"As the dispatcher was trying to communicate with her, her alleged abductor got the phone," said Newberry Sheriff Lee Foster.

"I'm Major Davis, US armed forces. I'm under orders from the Colonel of the U.S.A.F," said Davis to the 911 operator. "Understand that?"

By this point, deputies were on Davis' tail, following him through downtown Newberry.

Foster says Davis then took a left on Highway 395 headed into Saluda, all the while he was on the phone with deputies saying it wouldn't end well.

"This is not going to end in a happy ending," said Davis to the 911 operator.

Deputies say Davis swerved into them at least once as he threatened to intentionally crash his car.

"I need them to back up off me because at this rate of speed it's not going to be good for me or her," said Davis.

After 40 minutes, the chase ended outside of the Saluda County Detention Center when police knocked out Davis' tires. The victim wasn't hurt.

"They apparently met up in Augusta, Georgia, then went on a trek across North and South Carolina," said Foster.

Foster says Davis and the victim were raising money for his non-profit. For whatever reason, things went bad.

"We're trying to determine whether it was a collegial relationship that turned sour, or if he actually abducted her in Augusta, Georgia," said Foster.

Regardless, Davis is charged with kidnapping, failure to stop, and driving under suspension.
