COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Two well-known Texas politicians from both sides of the political spectrum will visit the Palmetto State in May for a pair of big-time political party fundraisers and conventions.

Freshman Texas Sen. Ted Cruz will deliver the keynote address at the 2013 South Carolina Republican Party Silver Elephant Dinner in Columbia on May 3 at 7 p.m.

Cruz's spokesperson confirmed the senator's RSVP and said he wouldn't miss the event because state GOP officials will be honoring Sen. Jim DeMint, a "friend and mentor" to the Texas Republican.

Last year's dinner was keynoted by potential 2016 presidential candidate and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

Meanwhile, the state's Democratic Party is preparing for its upcoming convention at the Columbia Convention Center.

Fellow Texas politician, Congressman Joaquin Castro, will also be in South Carolina before Cruz's arrival. He will also keynote the convention.

Castro was most recently elected to the House of Representatives. His twin brother, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, gave the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

Vice President Joe Biden is also scheduled to be in town that weekend for the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, where he is scheduled to speak.

If all this political jockeying looks curious, it's because there is usually plenty of it as a lead up to South Carolina's presidential primary in 2016.
