A teenager was killed and several people were taken to the hospital in a head-on crash in Saluda County Saturday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says three vehicles were involved in the crash on U.S. 378 about 8 miles north of Batesburg-Leesville. The crash occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday.

Saluda County Coroner Keith Turner said 18-year-old Samantha Wood of Greenwood died at the scene. She was a back seat passenger in one of the vehicles and Turner said she was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers say rescue crews had to cut 20-year-old Evelyn Davis from the pickup she was driving.  She was airlifted to the hospital.  A 13-year-old passenger in Davis' vehicle was also taken to the hospital.

Investigators say 18-year-old Dakota Jackson had to be cut out of the vehicle and was airlifted to the hospital also. 18-year-old Hanna Celena, a passenger in Jackson's vehicle, was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Wood was riding in the back seat and was killed.

Investigators say Jackson attempted to pass a pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Keith Becker and hit Davis' pickup head-on. Becker was not taken to the hospital.

The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
