AIKEN, SC (WIS) -

An Aiken woman was killed Saturday afternoon after she was hit by an SUV while walking on a sidewalk with her 2-year-old son.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said 29-year-old Lukisha Thomas, her son, and Ray Charles Wooden, Jr.  were walking along York St. near Eastern Pl. in Aiken Saturday afternoon when an SUV went onto the sidewalk and hit them.

Carlton said the crash occurred just after 2:00 Saturday afternoon. The Aiken Department of Public Safety said police officers provided first aid to the victims until EMS arrived.

All three were taken to the hospital.  Thomas died in surgery about an hour later.  Wooden's injuries required surgery and his condition has not been released.  The boy was checked out and released from the hospital.

The driver of the SUV was not injured. Investigators have not released information regarding what caused the SUV to go off the street and onto the sidewalk.

The crash remains under investigation.
