University of South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner says he'll do whatever it takes to keep women's basketball coach Dawn Staley in the garnet and black.
Tanner tells WIS he's given Ohio State permission to talk to Staley about the Buckeyes' coaching vacancy. Ohio State fired Jim Foster earlier this month.
Staley just finished her fifth season with South Carolina. She's guided the Gamecocks to two consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament. The team wrapped up a 25-8 season Monday, losing to Kansas in the second round of the big dance.
Tanner says Staley is out of town with family. He expects her to return over the next few days. He plans to have a face-to-face meeting with the coach before she interviews with Ohio State.
Staley's makes about $725,000 a year with USC. She was a gold medalist with the U.S. Women's Olympic basketball team.
