COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A suspect in an armed robbery attempt on Alcott Drive late Thursday afternoon remains in serious condition after he was shot during the incident.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the currently unidentified suspect, along with three other suspects, were attempting to rob a woman of her drugs around 3 p.m. Thursday when shots were fired and the suspect was hit.

Lott says deputies stopped a 2004 Hyundai speeding away from the area as they arrived at the scene.

Inside the car, deputies found the wounded suspect. EMS was called, and the suspect was taken to Palmetto Health Richland where he currently remains.

The three other suspects were arrested. Deputies charged 22-year-old Rashad Bright, 21-year-old Shyking Sermon, and 20-year-old Herbert Smalls with armed robbery.

Lott says additional arrests in this case could be coming.

Sermon, Bright, and Smalls have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
