Deputies: Man beat, threatened to kill his child's mother

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A North Charleston man is under arrest after deputies say he broke into the home of his child's mother, beat her, and threatened to kill her in front of their child.

Ramon Thomas, 28, has been charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, second degree burglary, and unlawful conduct towards a child.

According to an incident report, Charleston County deputies were called out to the 4000 block of Leslie Street on Tuesday around 11 a.m. in response to a domestic dispute. Upon arriving, deputies found Thomas who claimed his child's mother stabbed him in the hand for no reason.

Deputies say it looked like Thomas grabbed the blade of a knife as if someone attempted to stab him, causing several minor cuts to his left hand.

Authorities then spoke with the child's mother, who told a different story.

The victim told police she was taking out the trash when she saw Thomas, and the two had a verbal dispute. As she was walking back inside, Thomas grabbed her from behind, slammed her head into the door, and pushed her inside.

The report states Thomas kept saying "you are going to die" as he punched, choked and dragged the victim around the living room of her home.

The victim got away from Thomas by kicking him and the groin, she says. She then ran into the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and began chasing the suspect out of her home.

That is when police say Thomas grabbed a hold of the knife and injured his hand.

Deputies say the suspect then ran around to the back of the house and threw a brick through the kitchen window in an attempt to get inside. The brick nearly hit the victim and their one-year-old child.

The suspect then ran to the front of the house, where the victim said he banged on the door and said she was going to die.

Officials say the whole incident occurred in the presence of the one-year-old child.

After speaking with both parties and a witness, Thomas was identified as the primary aggressor and arrested.

He is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center, and has a bond hearing scheduled for Thursday morning.
