Midlands doctor indicted in Florida internet predator sting

A Midlands anesthesiologist's medical license has been suspended as he remains in federal custody following an Internet predator sting in Florida back in October 2012.

Police in Volusia County, Florida say Dr. John Francis Williams, 66, thought he was meeting a 14-year-old girl when he was arrested.

Officials say he brought wine, condoms, Viagra, various sex devices, and even a Teddy Bear with him for the teen.

Williams was in federal court in Columbia this week. Court documents show he plans to claim insanity at the time of the offense.

Through his medical license, we know he had privileges at Providence, Palmetto Health Richland and Baptist. Providence says Williams is no longer working there. Palmetto Health says Williams last worked for its hospitals in 2007.

Williams' medical license has been temporarily suspended as his case plays out in court.
