LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) – One month to the day Lexington's Chamber awarded Lee Pitcovich as its Young Professional of the Year award, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Lexington police records show, Pitcovich's blood alcohol level registered .23; three times the legal limit.

Lexington police officer Brandon Hassler made the DUI charge on March 14, 2013. Hassler stopped Pitcovich on East Main Street after clocking him driving 47 miles an hour in a 35 mph zone. The officer pulled Pitcovich after he stopped in the middle of an intersection after braking late for a red light, according to Hassler's report.

The patrol video shows Pitcovich pull into the Old Mill parking lot and around to the rear of the building. He pulled into a parking spot and nearly drove into the pond. The officer's report states Pitcovich's front tires were 18 inches from the edge of the water.

When the officer asked Pitcovich where he was headed, he told the officer he was heading home. When the officer asked him where he'd been, Pitcovich said he'd been "at an event," the video shows. The event was at the "Keg Cowboy," according to the report and Pitcovich told the officer he'd only had "one beer."

The officer conducted a series of field sobriety tests, which the report shows Pitcovich failed. Hassler arrested Pitcovich and took him to the county jail's blood alcohol room for a breath test. Pitcovich submitted to the test and blew a .23, according to the officer's report. By law, Pitcovich's license was suspended and the officer booked him on a driving under the influence of .16 or higher charge.

The next day, a Lexington County magistrate set Pitcovich free on a $2,267 surety bond. Pitcovich must notify the court of any change in his address, according to the record.

Pitcovich used E-Z Out Bail Bonding Company to pay the bail.

In February, the Lexington Chamber of Commerce awarded Pitcovich as the town's 'Young Professional of the Year.' Mayor Randy Halfacre presented the 33 year old businessman with the award, given to professionals under the age of 40. Pitcovich beat out five other nominees for the award.

Lee Pitcovich is active in Lexington's business community and Christian outreach programs. Pitcovich owns Event Management, LLC, an event planning and rental company based in Lexington. According to the company's online profile, Pitcovich founded the business in November 2011 after working at a bank in town.

Pitcovich is also chair of the Lexington YMCA board of directors, according to his Twitter biography. He also founded the Lexington Young Professional's club and is the board member of Leadership Lexington.

WIS reached out to Pitcovich for comment on this story, but as of this posting, he has not returned our message.

As of this report, there is no date set for Pitcovich's trial on the charge.
