A landmark Columbia restaurant has closed its doors after almost a quarter-century of serving the area.

Dianne's on Devine served its last meal Monday night after 18 years on Devine Street and a total of 24 years in business.

Owner Dianne Light on Tuesday morning wrote on the restaurant's Facebook page that the decision was made with mixed emotions.

"I've loved serving you for special occasions, business meetings or just a nice evening out over the years," wrote Light. "You all are like family to us. To say we couldn't have done it all these years without you is an understatement. Thanks to you and our extremely dedicated staff, Dianne's on Devine has earned several accolades and awards over the years, including 'Best Fine Dining,' 'Best Restaurant,' and 'Best Overall Dining Experience.'"

Longtime employee John Brunty said the process hasn't been easy. "I think that she felt like it was the time to move on to her next chapter," said Brunty. "She'd been contemplating it for quite awhile and it was just time to move on."

In 1989, Light opened Dianne's, a 60 seat venue on Assembly Street. Six years later, the restaurant moved to its current location on Devine Street.

The success of Dianne's paved the way for Light and executive chef Bill Prato to team up to open Di Prato's Delicatessen in 2004.

Light plans to continue her 40-year restaurant career by focusing on Di Prato's Delicatessen and Di Prato's Pimento Cheese.

"From the bottom of our hearts, I thank you, Columbia! Cheers to the next chapter for all of us," wrote Light.
