LANDRUM, SC (WYFF) - Two small children playing in a Landrum home led to the death of one, and the removal of the other from the home, according to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office.

The incident happened in Landrum, which is near the North Carolina border.

Deputies were called to the home about 11:30 p.m. about a 2-year-old that was unresponsive, Lt. Michael Hildebrand said.

The 2-year-old boy was playing with a 4-year-old girl in a bedroom, when a piece of furniture fell on top of the children, according to Hildebrand.

The children were both taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where the boy was pronounced dead, and the girl treated for her injuries, Hildebrand said.

The little girl was later removed from the home and placed into the care of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Hildebrand said.

This case remains under investigation.
