COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Inez "Renee" Baker, the civilian contractor from the Midlands who was killed in an attack on a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan, is being remembered for the service to her country.

Her two sons, Andre Odom and Larry Mitchell, Jr., and her sisters describe Baker as woman of wisdom, strength, and faith who always saw the best in everyone and every situation.

They say she enjoyed spending time with family, especially at the beach, and she loved being soldier.

"She loved serving her country. She loved her family. She just worked hard at whatever she did and she encouraged us to work just like she did," said Odom.

"She treated several of my friends just like they were her own kids," said Mitchell. "I mean, they just, there's not a whole lot of people that treats people as well as my mom does, no matter who you are, or where you come from."

The family is especially grateful for last Thanksgiving. Because Baker was usually deployed, it was the first holiday in years that the family spent together and they said it turned out to be their best holiday ever.

Baker's funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Kingdom Vision Church in Columbia.
