ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Heavy rains pounded Albany Monday night, and it caused some serious problems for the Albany State Golden Rams baseball team.
The Rams hosted Shorter University for a double header Tuesday, but not until the field was cleared of all the water, and one big problem in centerfield.
Coaches woke up to find a four-foot deep sinkhole had caved in the outfield. Crews were able to fill the hole with dirt, but it caused a two hour delay of first pitch.
Once the game got going, Shorter's bats came alive early.
The Hawks scored two runs in the first inning, and never looked back for a 5-1 victory in Game 1.
The momentum carried over to Game 2. The Hawks plated a baker's dozen, blowing out Albany St. 13-4.
The Golden Rams host Georgia Southwestern at 5 p.m. Thursday.
