CHAPIN, SC (WIS) -

Authorities have released the identity of a man who died in a fiery crash on Interstate 26 Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 11 a.m. two miles east of the Columbia Avenue exit near mile marker 93.

According to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, Robert B. Frantz, Jr., 51, of Columbia, was the driver and only occupant of an eastbound vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.

Watts said Frantz was wearing a seatbelt, but died at the scene.

An autopsy performed Tuesday morning shows that Frantz died from trauma associated with the crash, according to the coroner.

The Highway Patrol is investigating.
