COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A Columbia firefighter has been placed on "investigatory suspension" after the firefighter was arrested for assault during a road rage incident in Lexington County.

Jason Alan Grande, 27, has been charged with assault, larceny, and possession of controlled substance.

According to an incident report from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department, Grande was involved in an incident on Maple Road.

The report says Grande assaulted and broke another man's leg during a traffic dispute back on Feb. 27. Deputies responding to incident also say they found several pills on his person and several more pills in an unmarked bottle inside his truck.

As for the larceny charge, the report says Grande took the victim's cell phone away from him because the victim was attempting to record the incident.

Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says Grande has worked for the department since March 14, 2011 and will remain suspended "pending the outcome of his charges."

"While unfortunate and isolated, this does not reflect the character, dedication and professionalism by the men and women of the Columbia Fire Department," said Jenkins.

Grande is currently out of jail on a $66,092.50 bond.
