COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Jaylen Shaw scored 16 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to give Hartsville its second straight Class 3A boys basketball state championship with a 65-62 overtime victory over Eastside Saturday night.
The win gave the Red Foxes (28-1) state championships in football and basketball in the same school year, something that has been accomplished just seven times in state history.
Devontae Washington scored on an alley-oop pass from Shaw with a minute left to give Hartsville the lead for good. Shaw hit two free throws, Lakeith Ingram added another and Eastside's desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer glanced high off the backboard.
The Eagles (25-4) had a turnover and a missed shot during that sequence.
Washington added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Hartsville.
Eastside's Davaris McGowens finished with 28 points and 19 rebounds, but battled cramps much of the second half. Keil Sherman added 16 points.
