COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Lower Richland coach Debbie Stroman earned her seventh state title since 1994 by beating Orangeburg-Wilkinson 57-35 Saturday for the Class 3A Girls championship.
It's the seventh title for Lower Richland, tied for second most in state girls high school history. It won titles in 1994 and 1997, then won four straight from 2006-2009. Stroman was the coach for all seven titles and has never lost in the finals. The Diamonds are tied with three schools with seven championships, one behind Monetta and Bowman, which have eight each. Both of those schools have since closed.
Lower Richland (26-0) trailed briefly in the first quarter but used a 14-3 run in the second quarter to take control. They led by at least 15 the entire second half.
Breshay Johnson led the Diamonds with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Jasmine Richardson added 13 points.
Saukita Glover led the Bruins (27-2) with 12 points.
