Lake Marion defeated Newberry 91-82 Saturday to win the 2A State Championship in boys basketball at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.
Khalil Halls scored 33 points and added 11 rebounds to give Lake Marion its first Class 2A boys state championship.
Christopher Turner connected on a 3-pointer with less than two minutes remaining for the 15th and final lead change. That basket gave the Gators an 82-80 advantage, and Smalls scored four straight points to push the margin to six with less than a minute remaining.
Mike Williams chipped in 19 points and Deriante Jenkins added 12 points and 12 assists for Lake Marion (25-1). Turner finished with 11 points.
It was the second straight loss by the Bulldogs in the state final. They lost to North Charleston by one point last year.
Kaheem Praylow finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for Newberry (26-3). Jalin Alexander added 19 points with Notorious Booker adding 12 and Trey Miller 10.
