CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Union school bus drivers in Charleston have approved a new contract, avoiding a strike.
Charleston County School District officials said drivers on Saturday voted to approve a new 5-year contract with Durham School Services.
If union members rejected the contract, Teamsters Local 509 president L.D. Fletcher had said a strike would begin Monday.
School bus drivers in Charleston, Beaufort and Dorchester counties work for a private company and had been involved in a dispute over a new contract since last summer.
Drivers in Beaufort County accepted a new contract on Wednesday. Drivers in Dorchester District 2 did so on Tuesday.
