Hank Aaron to throw out 1st pitch in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Aaron will throw out the first pitch for the Columbia Blowfish this season.

Aaron played his final minor league game for the Jacksonville Braves in 1953 at Capital City Stadium in Columbia, the same place he will be on May 29 to make the ceremonial first pitch for the summer collegiate Coastal Plain League team.

Blowfish President Bill Shanahan has been friends with Aaron for years and says the first pitch will be the first of a number of events to honor the stadium, which was built in 1927.

Aaron hit 755 home runs in his major league career, a record that stood until Barry Bonds passed him in 2007.
