LIBERTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Liberty woman was charged Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a man dead on the side of an Anderson County road Monday night.

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said the body of 32-year-old Clifton Chapman, of Liberty, was found along Sharon Church Road at 8:45 a.m. near the Sharon Cemetery. He said Chapman was hit about 8 p.m. Monday.

Shore said a homeowner nearby heard a noise and saw a small Toyota-type car sitting in the road and then drive away. He said Chapman left a friend's house about 8 p.m. and was walking home.

The Highway Patrol was investigating Chapman's death after determining he was killed in a hit-and-run crash.

On Tuesday night, troopers named Ashley Duggan, of Liberty, as a suspect in the crash that killed Chapman.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne said Wednesday that Duggan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

Duggan's attorney, Druanne White, said the whole case is just a tragic accident.

"She actually stopped her car, and it had been damaged on the passenger windshield area up at the very top," White said. "She got out and looked around to see if there was anything there. She did not see anything, and she went home."

Duggan went before an Anderson County judge Thursday morning where White argued that Duggan has no criminal history and was not a flight risk during the hearing.

She was granted a PR bond, ordered to not have any contact with Chapman's family and was released from jail. Duggan has 10 days to request a preliminary hearing and her first court date is scheduled for April 5. If she is convicted, she faces up to 25 years in jail and a fine of $10,000 to $25,000.
